The educational project at “Dante Alighieri” school of Olgiate Olona
In order to provide continuity and sightedness to the memory of June 26, 1959, an educational project has been started in 2010 thanks to the intuition of Alberto Colombo supported by Beato Contardo Ferrini Institute and by the Municipality of Olgiate Olona. The project is addressed to the students in the eighth-grade of Dante Alighieri school and consists of: a multimedia conversation in the classroom about the historical fact and the commemorative events, dialog with the students, screening of the video of song Olgiate Olona, 26 Giugno 1959 composed by Nicola Puddu; production of a work written in Italian language follows. The works in poetry and prose are received anonymous; then they are selected and judged by a jury outside the school; the most deserving works - those which best reflect the historical fact and the commemorative events - are rewarded during the commemoration of June the 26. Because of their exceptional nature, some works received a Special award offered personally by Alberto Colombo with the authorization of Olgiate Olona mayor.

Works awarded school year 2021-2022
In 2022, the educational project in memory of the plane crash has been addressed to 47 students in the eighth grade of Dante Alighieri school. The following are the translations of the best works rewarded during the ceremony of the 63rd anniversary of June 26, 2022.
First classified, the poem Il cielo ha visto by ANITA GARINDO:
Il cielo ha visto
(the sky saw)
Their eyes
saw
lightning
from the sky.
A fragment of light
stroke dead their lives.
The sky saw
their eyes crashed
between Olona river and the damp earth.
I saw
that sky
with the eyes
of the one who painted it
in their memory.
The eyes of only one
saw
neither that sky,
nor that lightning,
nor any other light.
Second classified ex aequo, the poem Per non dimenticare by KATIA MAPELLI:
Per non dimenticare
(not to forget)
A day like many others
left seventy innocent lives in suspense,
who lost all that had been theirs.
They abandoned everything, with no explanation,
which would not have served anyway to fill the unbridgeable void.
A culprit was sought,
only fatality was found.
Like a snowfall in the middle of summer
the news of the deaths of men,
women and children arrived.
Many with the desire to explore,
others with the aim of reaching friends and family.
Dozens of voices were heard screaming
but among them there was one that could be heard:
that of an innocent baby still in the womb.
But this disaster is not without significance,
it has left a lesson:
give a meaning to every moment that is given to us.
It also left us a task: to pass on what happened
so that it is not lost.
There is no memory without remembering,
there is no life, therefore neither is History.
Second classified ex aequo, the poem Angeli by LARA ROSSI:
Angeli
(angels)
I didn’t believe in angels,
I didn’t think they could fly.
But now that I look at those pictures,
I understand that maybe, after all, angels exist.
Maybe they don’t have wings and white clothes,
because they crashed with that plane.
Maybe they don’t smile all the time,
but they have a sad expression on their face.
Death scares me,
but I want to keep remembering it, that death,
because those 70 angels did not choose to die,
but they continue to live on in our memories.
Second classified ex aequo, the poem Il silenzio assordante by DARIA PREVITI:
Il silenzio assordante
(the deafening silence)
And it fell
under the terrified eyes
of the people.
It took away 70,
70 lives, finished that day.
We are here to remember these 70 immortal lives.
We remember them with immense sadness,
among relatives and friends,
trembling in the silence...
like leaves in contact with the wind.
Not only cold and disanimated graves remain of those 70 lives.
Memories and bonds remain.

(June 26, 2022)
Seventy lives broken
by a cruel lightning bolt
that hit the plane.
Seventy are the names that we will mention,
we will remember them every year.
They will not be empty words,
but,
through Memory,
they will enter History.
